What is Microcement?

A microcement floor or plaster is, in fact, a multi-component system, with microcement being the core layer. It’s a thin, decorative layer of just a few millimeters made from a blend of cement, resins, pigments, and specialized additives. It’s a natural and ecological material that realistically reflects the look of concrete when applied to floors, walls, or countertops.

Depending on the application technique — and there are many — you can achieve a variety of decorative effects: smooth and subtle or more pronounced with burnt-in patterns. It’s important to note that color is just one element — the final look depends greatly on the style of application.

Microcement is durable, beautiful, and versatile, creating a unique atmosphere instantly. However, it’s crucial to choose microcement from a trusted source, backed by a brand known for quality.

Where Can Microcement Be Used?

Microcement is perfect for a variety of settings — from residential and office spaces to retail environments — adding a modern aesthetic that doesn’t always rely on gray tones thanks to diverse pigmentation options.

It can be used in wet or humid zones, stain-prone areas, and high-traffic spaces such as shops, gyms, restaurants, or corridors. However, its performance depends on choosing the right formulation and protective finish — not all microcements are the same. We recommend working with brands that offer tested, complete systems tailored to different needs: terraces, kitchens, bathrooms, floors, etc. If in doubt, reach out to a BAUTECH Customer Advisor.

What Are the Benefits of Microcement?

Even if you understand what microcement is, you might still ask: why should I choose it?
Here are its most important advantages:

  • Hypoallergenic and resistant to mold and mildew
  • Durability, provided you choose the right system for the space
  • UV resistance
  • Seamless surface without expansion joints
  • Unique visual effects depending on the application technique
  • zez wybór techniki aplikacji.

Microcement is easy to clean, suitable for underfloor heating, and compatible with various substrates.

How Is Microcement Applied?

A common question is how to apply microcement to floors or walls. First, the substrate must be prepared and cleaned, then primed with a suitable primer depending on its absorbency — for example, Bautech BAUGRUNT for absorbent surfaces or Bautech CONTACTO for non-absorbent ones.

Next, two layers of microcement are manually applied, with sanding and dust removal between layers. The final step is surface protection, based on the intended use (wall or floor):

  • Bautech BAUPUR PRIMER
  • Bautech BAUPUR LAKIER 700 HP
  • Bautech BAUPUR 800 HP TopLine (ceramic lacquer)

This is a simplified overview. Detailed instructions can be found on our CREATIVO ONE microcement and CREATIVO PRO ceramic microcementpages and in product data sheets.

How Do You Clean and Maintain Microcement Floors?

Because microcement floors are protected by a lacquer coating, proper cleaning and maintenance are essential. Avoid all-purpose cleaners — many contain ingredients that can irreversibly damage the lacquer layer and ruin the appearance of your floor.

For daily cleaning, use dedicated products for lacquered floors: gentle yet effective, requiring no scrubbing and leaving no streaks. The ideal cleaner should be safe for the surface and maintain aesthetics effortlessly.

BAUPUR CLEAN is such a product: efficient, long-lasting, and citrus-scented. It works not only on microcement but also on polished concrete, terrazzo, and similar surfaces.

To refresh the floor, apply BAUPUR PROTECT, which creates a thin protective micro-layer, masking minor scratches and wear, and restoring uniform appearance. The effect typically lasts 4 to 6 months, depending on traffic.

Is Microcement Suitable for Bathrooms and Showers?

Yes. Bautech CREATIVO microcement has proven hydrophobic properties, making it ideal for wet zones like bathrooms, saunas, and spa rooms. You can even enhance its waterproofing for shower enclosures by adding HYDRO PROTECT sealing activator to the base formula.

Microcement is also mold and mildew resistant, and its seamless surface allows water to run off without pooling or penetrating, unlike grout joints.
In short: microcement in bathrooms is a fantastic idea.

Where Can You Buy Microcement?

With the growing popularity of microcement floors and walls, many manufacturers have entered the market. So, where can you buy microcement that’s both aesthetically pleasing and long-lasting?

To avoid low-quality products, choose a tested solution developed by specialists, backed by a brand known for quality and experience. BAUTECH CREATIVO is such a system — developed by our dedicated R&D team, it’s been tested for mechanical strength, stain resistance, and abrasion durability before being launched.
